Te escondiste és una performance que reflexiona en torn al procés creatiu connectant-lo amb el fenomen místic. Parteix d’una instal·lació del 1995 (La noche oscura) en la qual es plasmava la idea de nit com a espai de creació. Tant a La noche oscura como a Te escondiste, s’invita a l’espectador a contemplar el negre, en la seva densitat, no com a negació de la llum, sinó ben al contrari: com a llum en ell mateix (”la noche no es no ver, es ver la noche”. Hugo Mujica, Sed adentro). L’absència de llum esdevé llum. El no res, el buit, l’abisme, el no saber, la pregunta, la cosa, el forat, l’inconscient... diferents paraules que s’aproximen a una experiència comú: espais de pressió en el processos creatius.
A Te escondiste es connecta allò que la tradició mística occidental anomena experiència de la Nit amb altres exploracions produïdes en marcs diferents. En elles la sed és la brúixola i la nit la llum que guia (“Sin otra luz y guía que la que en el corazón ardía” S. Joan de la Creu, Cántic Espiritual). El que és incomplet, la no-resolució, el buit, és la condició imprescindible para a poder crear. Perquè la creació artística es desenvolupa com a reacció a aquesta incomoditat plantejant respostes honestament incompletes al límit de l’home.
El que creix en l’amagat és el que es recollirà en la llum, però ha necessitat l’ombra com a condició per al seu conreu (“Es ella, la noche, la que nos libra de los reflejos, la que nos expande las pupilas”. Hugo Mujica, Sed adentro). També en l’amagat es produeix l’aproximació al Misteri, l’Hermètic. En l’esfera del personal i íntim, en l’interior de l’ésser, i des d’allà emergeix a l’exterior.
A Te escondite el negre-pigment, negre-matèria és llum. Transcendència i immanència esdevenen les dos cares que defineixen un mateix fenomen. A Te escondiste la llum no escapa de la gravetat. Aquesta és l’aportació que els autors volem extreure de la mística occidental, dins el mosaic de tradicions espirituals del món, com a sana provocació tant pel materialisme com per l’espiritualisme, els dos extremismes que deshumanitzen l’home contemporani.
La performance es desenvolupa en un espai tancat i per la intervenció de quatre performers. Nosaltres dos pintem un quadre cercant la llum sumant els tres colors primaris, fins que obtenim el negre, l´única “llum” possible en la mescla subtractiva. Una gran taca fosca serà el flash de la matèria, sense imatge (estat sensitiu de suspens). Un tercer performer escriu a l’ordinador poemes d’Hugo Mujica de Sed adentro emprant les eines del software per a que els assistents, mirant la seva projecció, construeixin la seva pròpia lectura poètica llegint-los en els ritmes que marcarà aquest performer (escolta visual). La quarta performer grava sobre petits pans, amb un ferro de daurar calent, les paraules: “te escondiste”. Aquests pans es lliuraran als assistents perquè mengin la matèria tocada per la paraula (ingestió de la nit, ingestió del límit del llenguatge i de la matèria).

Te escondiste (You Hid Yoursef) is a performance which reflects the creative, connecting it with the mystic phenomenon. It is part of an installation of 1995 (The Dark Night) which brought together the idea of night as a creative space. The Dark Night as well as You Hid Yourself, invites the spectator to contemplate the black, in its density, not as a negation of the light, but as light in itself (“The night isn`t to not see, it is to see the night.” Hugo Mujica, Inner Thirst). The absence of light becomes light. The nothingness, the emptiness, the abyss, the not knowing, the question, the thing, the hole, the unconscious... are different words which speak of a common experience: spaces of pressure in the creative process.
In You Hid Yourself what the occidental mystic tradition calls the Night is connected with other explorations brought forth in different frameworks. In these, thirst is the navigator’s needle and night is the light which guides (“without another light and guide than that with which the heart burns.” St John of the Cross, Cántico Espiritual). The incomplete, the unresolved, the emptiness is the essential condition to be able to create. Because the artistic creation is the answer to this disatisfaction, planting questions about the limitation of man.
What grows in the hidden place is what the light will choose, but it has needed the shadow as a condition in which it can be cultivated ("Its the night that frees us from the reflections, that opens up our pupils." Hugo Mujica, Inner Thirst ). Also in the hidden is produced the drawing near to the Mystery, to the impenetrable. What emerges from the personal and intimate sphere, in the inner being, to the exterior.
In You Hid Yourself the black pigment, black material is light. Transcendence and immanence are the two facets which define the same phenomenon. In You Hid Yourself the light doesn`t escape gravity. This is the contribution which the artists want to extract from the occidental mystic within the mosaic of the world`s spiritual traditions, like a healthy provocation for materialism as well as for spiritualism, the two extremes which dehumanise contemporary man.
The performance takes place within an enclosed space and with the intervention of four performers. We paint a canvas looking for light by mixing the three primary colours, until they find black, the only light possible in a subtractive mixture. The big dark stain will be the flash of the matter, without image (sensitive state of suspense). A third performer writes on computer poems from Inner Thirst by Hugo Mujica, employing the tools of an auto-editing programme so that the viewers, looking at its projection, build up their own poetical reading, by reading in time to the rhythms in which the performer types (visual listening). The fourth performer prints onto small loaves of bread using a red hot gilding iron the words: “te escondiste”. These loaves of bread are handed out to the viewers, so they eat the matter that has been touched by the word (ingesting the night, ingesting the limit: of the language and of the matter).
